Speak Out

What is the programme about?

You will learn about independence and self-advocacy. We will focus on assertiveness, disability issues, accessing public services, the political process, independent living and participating in social life.

What will I achieve?

  • Participate in your community
  • Identify useful organisations and networks
  • Identify leisure and personal development opportunities
  • Making websites if required for any campaigns.
  • What will we cover?
  • Rights and responsibilities
  • Self-advocacy
  • Living independently
  • Getting involved in the community
  • There will be external visits and invited speakers

How will I be taught?

We will look at your rights, share ideas around how you can find information around accessible places. The group will work together to put together campaigns to advocate for people with disabilities. We will focus on assertiveness and self confidence. Being assertive means being able to stand up for your own or other people’s rights in a calm and positive way, without being either aggressive, or passively accepting ‘wrong doings’.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
